This site is dedicated to researching the Harty Family in the United States of America. Drawing our lineage back to Hans Jacobsen Hartje, immigrating from Bern, Switzerland and arriving in America on April 16, 1663 in New Amsterdam (modern day New York City), our line has been based out of Southeast Missouri since the late 1790's. The primary aim of this site is to gather the family together from across the Nation and even the entire world, as we seek to number our family and take pleasure in the diversity of each individual in the Harty Family.

The Star Spangled Banner


Check out this great video that has the Star Spangled Banner set to scenes from The Patriot. You can imagine the sacrifice of all those patriots who made our choice land a Nation.



Please read this Preamble to the Declaration of Independence and remember what your fore bearers did for you to secure this divine Land.


When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

— That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
— That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.


Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.


I hope that as Americans, we understand fully that we need to follow what Jefferson says on our behalf here. We need to make sure that we guard against being passive or even lackadaisical in our approach towards our freedom and independence. If we do not each guard it, it will be taken away. Let us learn from our ancestors and American fore bearers and protect and fully enjoy the privilege of an American!


I am surely proud of Dennis Harty, as all the below listed direct ancestors who, from the minority of colonists, saw the injustices of the British Empire and fought to overthrow it...for me and my children today! Thank you...I cannot express my true feelings of gratitude towards them for what they did my family and all Americans!

Yeah, I came upon it the other day. I was watching a video of former WWF wrestler, The Ultimate Warrior, give a presentation at UConn. He's now a conservative public speaker, and he quoted that towards the end of his presentation.

Dickinson sums up the motivation for being involved in public service (and life in general, really) succinctly, and certainly better than most people could.

The Ultimate Warrior was cool! I'd like to see that link sometime. I surely think that the key to his comment is for the common man, not just public life.

I truly enjoyed the scenes from the Patriot with the background music from the Star Spangled Banner. Great find, Brent! Well done! I viewed several episodes of the documentary on the Revolution. It was amazing to see the hand of the Lord in the formation of this great country. Our freedom would not have been gained without Him, and those that He chose to lead us, such as General Washington. I thank the Lord for these great men, and hope that He will give us leaders who will protect that freedom from people who are bent on destroying this country. We must elect people who really care about America, her Heritage and her great future and her people, and not just their own little vindictive games and their own profit from the government while supposedly speaking in the name of the people. Great quote by Dickinson. Thanks Nathaniel! Of course, we must do our part, become informed of the truth, and not follow those blindly who have the time, money and power to influence the truth. The same kind of people who have written history like they want it written. Thanks guys.
